Parent Workshop 1: This is a three day workshop that is educationally based and gives the parent many new tools and parenting skills. The emphasis of all the skills learned is that you will be starting to build back the relationships that have been damaged. A parent can learn all of the skills in the world, but if there is not a relationship established they will be very ineffective. Some of the topics that are covered are: goal setting with your teen, communication skills, issues of control, setting limits and boundaries, what to do and expect on the return of your child from therapeutic boarding school, parenting styles and child types (do they conflict or mesh and what to do with them), relationship skills, how to offer choices, using thinking words not fighting words, self-esteem, and things to do while child is at therapeutic boarding school. You will also be taught a plan that will help provide structure in the home for when your child returns. After completion of this workshop you will begin to be prepared for your home visits and eventually their return home.

Parent Workshop 2: This is a three day workshop that is all about practice, practice, practice. The first part of the workshop will be about your experience of your home visits and what worked and didn't work for you. Then you will experience role plays using these real life scenarios from your home visits. Your child will be in attendance all three days to practice and implement the tools you have learned in the first workshop. You will be video taped during these role plays and then will receive feedback as to what you did well and how you could incorporate the skills and tools that you have been taught more effectively.
